Permits in Woodstock, sorted.
From the city's own website, read 9 October 2026.
Woodstock runs a one-permit system: the same building permit covers interior and exterior renovations. The City's 2026 when a permit is required guide says residential alterations need one for:
- Any structural change, including altering interior partitions and adding windows or doors.
- Plumbing installation and renovations, except replacing fixtures.
- Installing or replacing furnaces and ductwork.
- Insulating exterior walls when the cladding comes off.
Applications are online only, through Cloudpermit; the City doesn't accept them by email. For residential construction, review may take up to 10 business days. Interior renovations, including plumbing and HVAC work, are charged $8 per $1,000 of construction value, with an $80 minimum. Not sure whether you need one? The Building Department is on 519-539-2382 ext. 3103 or 3106. Electrical work is separate everywhere in Ontario: the Electrical Safety Authority says almost all of it must be reported through a notification of work before it starts, by a Licensed Electrical Contractor.
